We’re excited to share that in 2026, Groundswell Scotland will deliver two Sough & Sea programmes, supporting women and non-binary people to build wellbeing, resilience, and connection through surf therapy, nature, and community 🌊🌿 Running between June and October, across coastal and woodland settings, participants will develop confidence, ocean awareness, and environmental skills—while forming meaningful peer connections and deepening their relationship with nature. From trauma-informed surf sessions at Pease Bay to guided woodland therapy and sustainability workshops, each programme will create safe, supportive spaces for growth and empowerment. Sough & Sea will continue to demonstrate the power of combining wellbeing with climate-positive action—supporting individuals while strengthening communities and care for coastlines and wild spaces. 2 programmes funded Funded by Cockburnspath & Cove Community Fund, administered by Foundation Scotland at Pease Bay and Dean area, Each programme will consist of three x 3 hour sessions, including two surf therapy sessions and an environmental conservation session - all equipment will be provided. Our sessions are delivered by fully qualified and experienced surf and nature therapy facilitators who are trauma informed, Beach lifeguards and surf coaches. Come along and experience catching waves on body boards with a focus on wellbeing and fun. All of our sessions begin with our groundings, some mindful breathing and a check-in with how our body and mind are feeling. We look to help you to connect your body and mind to find your stoke in the water in a safe and supported way. Before we get in the sea we ask you to set an intention of what you'd like to find in the sea or what you'd like to leave on the beach. Spending time on the beach and in the sea connecting with nature and other surfsisters will help you leave feeling reset and help you take what you need into the rest of your day/week/life. In these sessions we'll use body boards to learn how to select your wave and ride it in while really connecting with the playfulness of surfing. On a body board you hold on to the board, leap into the white water of the breaking wave and whizz into the beach. Your legs are able to provide an extra boost as they are free to kick and you can use your upper body to steer the board. This takes away the pressure of surfing on a surfboard as you won't be trying to stand up. We won't go any deeper than waist-chest height so you can feel safe (you will always be able to put your feet on the sand) and it's a really accessible way to have fun and play, get ready to find your inner child! Our sessions finish with our waves of wisdom so you have a chance to reflect on how you were feeling during your sea time and how you feel after. You will be invited to share this with the group if you choose to. |
